The Role Queue system is designed to help take the edge off this process, ultimately leading to matches that feel fairer and more fun, where players are in roles that they want to be in. The matchmaking system will then match two tanks, two supports, and two damage heroes to create a team, and upon entering match, players will select heroes within their chosen roles. At the end of a match in both Competitive Play and Quick Play , players will return to the main menu and select their role before queuing for the next game. Each of the three roles will have its own queue, and players will be able to see estimates for the wait time for each at the role-selection screen. To help incentivize a more even distribution of players across all roles, players who queue for roles that are currently in high demand may get a reward. We believe that Role Queue will improve match quality, give players more control over their gameplay experience, and provide more positive social experiences between teammates. While Role Queue will shake up the team composition meta-game, we also wanted to do a balance pass to make sure every hero is still viable and useful to play. Role Queue affects hero balance significantly, especially for heroes such as Brigitte who was most potent as a third Healer or Tank. In addition to giving players more freedom to play the roles they want, we believe this will also result in games that are fairer, more appropriately matched, and ultimately more fun overall. This rating will be a number between 1 and , with higher values indicating a greater skill level.
Hearthstone Battlegrounds MMR breaks after 20 or so games – but it’s being fixed
In response to the recent community complaints from professionals and non-professionals alike , Blizzard has announced upcoming ladder changes and explained a bit about why Legend-ranked players have been facing non-Legends more frequently in recent months. Essentially, ladder has been working as designed, but an unintended consequence of having more people reach Legend each month was that losing games hurt a lot more, especially at the lower end of the Legend ladder, where players can get stuck in a downward spiral playing against non-Legend players.
Starting in July, it will be harder for Legend players to be paired against non-Legend players, hopefully making for better play experiences for Legend players and non-Legend players alike. Check out the official post and then let us know what you think about the changes in the comments below. After seeing this number change, you may ask yourself: what does this rating actually mean? And how did my rating get decided alongside my opponents? Your rating in Hearthstone Battlegrounds is more than just a number. The value of your rating represents your skill level in Hearthstone Battlegrounds with a higher value meaning you are more skilled.
But it also helps us match you with seven other players of similar skill, helping make each game you play to feel as fair as possible. In Mathematical terms, the rating distribution follows a bell-shaped curve called normal distribution.
Hearthstone is adding a new Demon Hunter class in April
The current Hearthstone ladder is getting a complete overhaul on April 1st with the introduction of the new league system. In this post, I will go through the new system and what it means for players in detail. In the old system, the Hearthstone ladder consists of 25 new player ranks ranks , 25 regular ranks, and Legend. In order to advance through the ranks, you need to gain stars.
The skill-based matchmaking in Modern Warfare is leading players to go to extreme lengths in order to get in easier public lobbies.
Breaking news: Hearthstone: Descent of Dragons guide. The Hearthstone dev team have been working hard on their new system for ranked play. Hearthstone has had pretty much the same ranked system for years. You start at rank 25, and gain stars with each win until you get to rank 1, and the best among us hit Legend above that. Every player will start at the lowest rank – Bronze. Each rank has 10 tiers, with 3 stars in each tier. According to Hearthstone designer Alec Dawson, this new system will make it easier for players to talk about their rankings.
There are rank floors too – every 5 ranks you can no longer be demoted that season, just like the case now. Matches will be decided by MMR, rather than by simple ranking.

Update: Blizzard addressed these issues in a new statement concerning an upcoming ranked play update. More on that here. If you’ve ever played an online game, you’ve probably complained about the matchmaking. You’ve pubstomped low-rank players who never stood a chance, and you’ve been crushed by high-rank players you had no business facing. For a variety of algorithmic reasons, sometimes bad matches just happen.
But for the best players in Hearthstone, they’ve been happening a lot lately.

Valve unveiled the newest update directed towards Dota 2 matchmaking system, which has been hit with several updates in recent months, with the most recent making some much-needed changes to the scaling MMR based on relative skill and the ranked game modes. Valve explained that they decided for this move because they believe players who play solo have much greater impact on the way the game is played, compared to those who enter ranked matches in a party, and will for that reason award the solo players with the ability to climb the ladder faster, while players who play in a party will see their MMR increase at a slower pace.
That is, however, something that works in theory, will that translate into the real games, however, remains to be seen. The Ranked Roles will from now on be “locked” behind a so-called ticket system. Previously, the players earned the fast queues by selecting every role, meaning they could be assigned to play any of the five roles. Now, the Dota 2 players will earn four Ranked Roles games when selecting all the positions and will be eligible to play Ranked Roles if they pick two support boxes.
Ranked Classic, which does not let you select any roles, on the other side, will replace the Slow Queue games. That issue was already addressed by Ylli “garter” Ramadani, who publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with Dota 2 in his announcement, where he unveiled he will be leaving Dota 2 in favour of League of Legends , where he looks to continue his gaming career. The updates overall failed to inspire much enthusiasm in the Dota 2 community, however, the Ranked Roles game mode has been widely accepted as one of the best additions Dota 2 have made to its matchmaking as it mitigates the all too familiar arguments between the players about who will play what role, which more times than not lead to abuse and ultimately toxic community and unpleasant games.
While Ranked Roles is by no means a perfect solution, it is a step in the right direction and the Dota 2 community seems to be accepting the changes with open arms. As far as the MMR changes are concerned, it seems like it could lead to some high-ranked players earning significantly more MMR than they did under the old system. That could, however, change if Valve introduces a new matchmaking algorithm, but since there were no announcements that would indicate that, we can expect some MMR inflation.
What effect will that have on the game and the ranked games, however, remains to be seen. That said, Valve is releasing new updates to their Dota 2 matchmaking system at a rapid pace and we can expect even more changes to be implemented by the end of the month.
Hearthstone streamer exposes clan of snipers who repeatedly targeted him
Matchmaking is the process of determining appropriate player pairings when players are queuing up to play Hearthstone. The matchmaking process functions differently for each game mode. In each case, the goal is the same: to try to find a player of similar matchmaking value rating, rank or record as possible. When a player enters the matchmaking queue the system will attempt to find another player in the queue with an identical matchmaking value.
If a perfect match is not found, the matchmaking system will “wait a few seconds” and then search again. For information and statistics on specific types of matchmaking, see Ranked , Casual , and Arena.
Hey everyone! We put together a general matchmaking FAQ here for our new ranked system to help answer questions you may have.
One of Hearthstone’s most popular streamers has fought back against a pack of players who regularly sniped his games, Eurogamer’s competitive gaming sister site Metabomb reports. Octavian Morosan, better known to the Hearthstone community as Kripparrian, or Kripp, has frequently complained about players who stream-snipe – in other words those who watch his stream when playing against him to see his hand. It’s an unfortunate part of the game but, as Kripp says in the video below, pretty much unavoidable.
But then Kripp began matching repeatedly with the same players who not only had knowledge of what he was about to play, but who also used incredibly lucky – and perfectly suited – Arena decks in order to beat him. If Kripp played a deck with a weakness to a particular other deck, he would see that exact rival deck pop up, and someone with a similar-sounding screen name would be on the other end “sniper16”, “sniper24”, “sniper30”.
He began to suspect a group of players had built up a selection of strong Arena decks, ready to pounce with the right counter when he began matchmaking. In Hearthstone, you click on a button to have the game find a match for you. These stream snipers would watch Kripp’s stream, wait for him to click this button, then quickly click it themselves in the hope the game would match them up. This worked, sometimes multiple times a night.
And so, Kripp set a trap. After mentioning that he had no lag set on his stream, he match-made against a sniper on purpose then added them as a friend, so he could investigate further. Kripp then saw that person was friends with another with a similar name, and so on, until he uncovered various offending accounts.
It’s pretty sad people will go all this way just to make a streamer suffer when trying to entertain others.
